It is an undeniable fact that no-one has ever been able to trace
the real origins of the healing method known as Reiki. According to many ancient
religious texts, for thousands of years, many holy people including Buddha, Ram
& Krishna, Jesus Christ, as well as many other different religious figures have
used this method of healing. For example, 2,600 years ago there were reports
that Gautam Buddha healed many people with his hands and with his compassion.
His teachings were then passed down to one of his closest disciples Ratna Garva
with the responsibility that this universal healing gift was for the benefit of
all living beings.
Unfortunately however for many reasons unexplained, the benefits
and wisdom of this healing method remained hidden for a long time until it was
rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan at the beginning of the 20th
century. Then Reiki spread to be tried and tested in the USA through Hawayo
Takata where it then spread across the world.
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning universal energy. “REI” means
universe and “KI” means energy so that the union of both words gives us
universal energy. We many say that the sun represents REI and its light
represents KI. All that lives has this energy flowing through it within a field
of energy known as the aura. It is everywhere in the atmosphere and can be seen
in the colours of the rainbow. Human beings have this energy by nature, but
have largely lost awareness of it. This vital energy responds to thoughts and
feelings. Negative thoughts and feelings like anger or jealousy unbalance
energy and this imbalance cause dysfunctions in the body. Slowly, different
kinds of disease appear. Reiki says that the mind is the main source of
disease.

The science of natural healing maintains the most important cause
of all illnesses are the toxins and wastes that build up within the human
organism. For this reason the main objective of any natural healing treatment
should be to remove those waste product from the organism.
In a basic Reiki treatment a healer lays hands on a person’s body
in different positions, allowing energy to flow to the affected parts and
energize them. Reiki is not ‘sent’ as such, the body simply draws what it
requires. By drawing an extra amount of Reiki energy, the patient feels more at
peace and relaxed. Reiki works to cure the root cause of disease by clearing
and healing the energy pathways and so allowing the vital energy to flow
naturally and normally. Giving Reiki treatments also benefits the healers, as
they are channels for Reiki energy flowing through them to their patients. We
can use Reiki to heal animals, plants, objects and even places and situations
far removed in space and time. Reiki is always beneficial, guiding itself with
a wisdom of its own. No previous knowledge is necessary for learning Reiki. It
is independent of faith, religion, age, social status or intellectual capacity.
There is no need to change belief systems or consider Reiki as anything but
natural. Everyone can become a Reiki healer.
Where is the universal energy
found?

The visible part of universal energy is manifested in the seven
major colours that we all have sometimes seen all together in the beautiful
phenomenon known as the rainbow. Every day, we are receiving this energy
incessantly through the light of the sun. The seven colours that compose it
enter our organism through the seven major chakras, or energy centres of the
human body. There are many chakras in the human body, each with different
functions and each attracting and passing on universal energy. Failing to do
this adequately produces what we might call a ‘colour deficiency’ with the
result that different illness appear in the organism. For example, the root
chakra controls all our emotional life. If this chakra weakens, it cannot
attract the colour red and so the person will not have the strength of will
necessary to wish to live life fully because of an emotional imbalance, and will
therefore feel dissatisfied with life.
In this way, each colour has a special function in our human
lives. For this reason our bodies need each of these aspects of vital energy in
order to stay healthy and live a fulfilling life. We need the seven colours in
our life as we also need to pass them on as energy through our hands to other
people who are our patients. That way, once this energy is transmitted to the
suffering person, their illness slowly disappears.
One of the greatest values that Reiki has is the chance it gives
us to learn a technique of healing that converts us into healers with no need to
depend on others. After learning this technique, the person who practices it
regularly will be able to stay in good health – that much is certain. It’s much
better for anyone to maintain good health than to be obliged to become a
doctor’s patient, therefore if you dedicate one hour a day to Reiki and practice
it heartily and with complete goodwill, you can spend the remaining 23 hours
doing any kind of work. And if you don’t, you may find yourself in the future
spending large amounts of money trying to solve any unexpected and unwelcome
problems. This brings us to the conclusion that learning this natural method of
Reiki treatment is a useful tool that brings benefit to ourselves as well as
others. One can also use it to treat other people which will clearly bring
great satisfaction to everyone who learns this method of healing.

Precautions

The Ego is by far the greatest danger in Reiki practice with some
people going as far as talking about ‘my Reiki’ or ‘my healing power’. This is
erroneous as Reiki is a universal life force. It is important only that the
healer be a clear and pure channel for the energy to flow through to the
receiver.
It is important to remember that Reiki, once it is channelled,
always has an impact, without the use of medication, essences or other forms of
therapy. It works on all kinds of people and situations always. Symptoms of
illness can reappear or be exacerbated in the patient which can produce
discomfort for a time. This is a part of the process of speeding up the healing
process. In the same way incidents of ‘negative’ emotional release can occur
with outbursts of crying during treatment or after it. Once again, this is a
manifestation of the healing process which is being speeded up. Remember that
supreme beings gave us tears as a way of healing ourselves.
